3 TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR DAILY MOVEMENT

Do you ever find yourself sitting at a desk all day, only to get up and realize that your neck and back are stiff, or that you have a headache? If so, you’re not alone. According to the CDC, “adults spend an average of 8.5 hours per day in sedentary activities.” Yikes! That’s a lot of time spent being inactive.

The good news is that there are steps you can take to reduce the amount of time you spend being sedentary. Incorporating more movement into your day can help increase your energy levels, improve your mood, and promote better overall health. Here are three tips to help you get started:

GET UP & MOVE EVERY 30 MINUTES

The next time you find yourself glued to your chair, set a timer for 30 minutes and make a commitment to get up and move around for at least 5 minutes when it goes off. Once you start moving, you may find that you don’t want to stop! Taking even a short walk around the block or up and down the stairs can do wonders for your energy levels and your state of mind.

INVEST IN A STANDING DESK/BALANCE BALL CHAIR

If you work at a desk all day, consider investing in a standing desk or a balance ball chair. Both options will allow you to move more throughout the day without having to sacrifice productivity. And, as an added bonus, they can also help improve your posture!

MAKE SOCIALIZING ACTIVE

Next time you meet up with friends, try doing something active instead of just going out for coffee or drinks. Taking a walk in the park, going for a hike, or even playing tennis or basketball together can be a great way to stay active while also spending time with the people you care about.

Making small changes in your daily routine can have a big impact on your overall health and well-being. So next time you find yourself feeling sluggish or uncomfortable after sitting for too long, try one of these tips to incorporate more movement into your day. Your body (and mind!) will thank you for it!
